“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:4-8
“See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ”root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;”
Hebrews 12:15
“But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD,because he has dealt bountifully with me.”
Psalm 13:5-6
This morning I found a lyric and rough recording of a new song I wrote called “I Love You”. Reading the lyric with the rough demo helped me see why I got upset yesterday.
This weekend was very busy as I entertained a friend from out of town Friday and the next day I was very surprised by my own surprise birthday party. The following day, I had to get up at 6:30am to arrive at church to prepare to sing for three choir services.
After church I was tired and hungry. Time to clean and prepare the house for our big party we had planned for our friend Jason who finished our basement. He came over with his three young boys his wife and in laws and parents. We were looking forward to this thank you party with lots of fun and celebration.
Conflict came when my husband asked me to find the slow cooker in pantry to serve the chili. The pantry was so cluttered that I had to take everything out to find it. My husband was frustrated, and then I reacted with anger and untruthful accusing words. I blamed him for buying so many chips and having so much “stuff”.
After tears I realized I had a problem for blaming him and I needed to examine my own heart and forgive him. I was hurt, so I hurt back.
“ Why look at the speck of dust in your brothers eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye?”
Mathew 7:3-5
“Don’t Let the sun go down on your anger.” Ephesians 4:26
“See that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” Hebrews 12:15
I was physically and emotionally exhausted and I didn’t have the Lord’s truth and armor on. Ephesians 6:11-13 says “Put on the full amour of God that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” I was an open prey to being attacked!
I felt pressured to be perfect and listened to a lie. While I felt I was not good enough the truth of God says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made loved more than the grains of sand”. (Psalm 139:17-18)
We are chosen by the Lord to be His treasured possession. I was choosing to only look at my mess and react to feelings instead of choosing to look at God’s truth.
I hurt with my words and needed to forgive myself and ask to be forgiven. The truth is that that God is near to us, the broken hearted, and wants to give us strength to accomplish all things through Him.
We must intentionally keep His word and truth near to our mind and hearts and live daily in His truth and presence. Isaiah 4:29 reminds us,“He gives strength to the weary.” While James tells us, “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed”.
This is the rough lyric and recording of the song that inspired this devotion. It’s titled “I Love You”
Additional Verses
“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

“Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
John 18:37
